Social

Why

When the people who work together on a daily basis, a social event helps them to get to know each other. This significantly improves the chance that they will respect each other, handle problems in an easier way and thus work happily together, and successfully finish the project.

Prepare for success

  • Invite everyone that is closely involved in the project (key stakeholders, Product Owner, development team).
  • Plan the social event on a date and time that as many people as possible are able to participate.

How

Go out to eat, drink, do a fun activity. Have fun together! Maybe introduce a fun team building activity (story telling / DISC/ Play Poolbiljart etc).

Definition of Done[1]

  • Everyone had fun.
  • Team members know each other a bit better.

Real Life Example

What a developer said about one of the key stakeholders after going out for a drink after the Sprint Review: “While talking to each other in the bar, we discovered that we both own a boat, where we spend most of our weekends. I think this actually made it easier for me to ask him a question at work.”

Notes

  1. Definition of Done - A shared understanding of expectations that the Increment must live up to in order to be releasable into production. Managed by the Development Team.
